Practical Guidelines for Program Selection and Design It is clear that there is no single type of content that will be appropriate for all educational environments, and the needs and conditions of each environment is so particular that it is impossible to provide specific recommendations for the combination. However, a number of guidelines can be offered for the process. Since the steps to be used in preparing a practical language teaching program can be named as follows:1. Define and estimate, to the extent possible, what outcomes are desired for students in the educational program or in a course, i.e. what students should be able to do as a result of the instruction.2. Rank the program types presented in the previous entry based on their likelihood of leading to the desired results. Arrange the six types to show the level of preference you intend to give to each type.3. Evaluate the resources available for teaching, needs analysis, choice and production of materials and teacher training.4. Rank programs based on available resources. You need to decide which types of programs would be the easiest to use in practice, taking into account the resources available.5. Compare the lists you made that are the results of steps two and four. If necessary, make some changes to the above list; present a new ranking based on the availability of resources.6. Designate one or two program types as dominant and give less importance to one or two as secondary.7. Review the issue of combining or integrating types of study programs and define how these combinations can be achieved and in what proportion.
