Hertneky (2010) explored the concept of leadership and personal identity in twelve female college presidents. Mentoring was found to shape their career paths and drive to make a difference. The concepts of balance, authenticity, relationship management, life composition and learning were identified as five very important components of their career. Leadership personal identity has been described as the perception of self and is distinct from others' perception of the leader. These women stated that the presidency is a role and not a job and that they always held that role except when in the company of friends and family (Hertneky, 2010). The concepts of balance, authenticity, leading relationships, composing a life, and learning are critical components to a successful nursing career. Nurses must maintain a balance between work and family, are expected to lead at some point, are lifelong learners of competent and safe care, and are unique and authentic to the healthcare field. Taylor and Francis (2009) report that obesity is detrimental to quality of life and is linked to genetic and environmental factors. Obesity poses a major health threat and overwhelms health services. Because obesity has strong links to the environment, psychology can help by engaging in teaching that will address “appetite abnormalities including reduced sensitivity to satiety cues and increased reactivity to external cues” such as portion size and investigating the relationship between dietary behavior and genetic risk ( Taylor and Francis, 2009, p.998). Psychological research has been key to “understanding the impact of the food environment and the risk of weight gain” (Taylor and...... half of the paper ...... (portfolio compliance has gone from less than 50% to 100% among surgeons who received monthly feedback from a supervisor), peer support, compliance (when portfolios are required, compliance is higher and also when the user received more guidance on how to use the portfolio ), cost (printing costs), and time (Tochel et al., 2009). At Marian University, undergraduate and graduate nursing program students are required to submit a portfolio. Related to the things mentioned that influence the effectiveness of portfolios , these are not the same things that can affect nursing care Things like a good attitude, implementation of competent nursing skills, adherence to nursing policies and protocols, support from mentors and colleagues, and good management skills time are all crucial things that nurses can improve.!
