Topic > Naturalism in To Build A Fire by Jack London - 1552

There is a huge difference between instinct and intellect. London's reflection on the current state of our world/society/culture and how we can deal with situations such as global warming, tsunamis, floods, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and other geological processes as a species is the use of instinct and less use of ego and pride. Man's use of intellect over instinct has been one of the greatest mistakes. Intellect is inferior to instinct when survival is linked to it. The idea that London's “cautionary/naturalistic” proposal is appropriate for the survival of the human race today, even though history was written 100 years ago. We people act like men, we ignore the changes in our environment, we are challenging nature and we are against nature by polluting nature. We are certainly behaving like the man with no name. This advice is appropriate in so many ways that animals have also used their instincts to survive through evolution. As if the Man Vs Nature conflict explained that man cannot win a fight against nature. London, believes as a naturalist that humans should use their instincts and wisdom as a basis for survival because their ability to survive is influenced by experience and abandonment. When it comes to survival, London argues that instinct is superior to intellect. He warned people about what could lead to their demise if they don't use theirs
