Topic > The School Uniform Problem - 874

Imagine a normal school day. You wake up and get dressed. Now imagine wearing the same clothes every day for the rest of your school years and having no say in the matter. Some people around the world are facing the problem of school uniforms. When you finally get to school you see everyone else wearing the same outfit as yesterday. This is what all private and some public schools do. Uniforms are also a very big commitment. They don't allow students at school to express themselves freely, they are boring and for some students it is an opportunity to rebel. Normally when a student comes home from school they start doing homework or relaxing, but not anymore. If you were to attend a private school or a school that requires uniforms, you should wash them so you can prepare for the next school day. Furthermore, this would take time away from homework and other activities. Also for some students this is a big commitment because some kids don't even do their homework, which is another responsibility. On top of that, someone, the school or the parents, has to pay the cost and money used for the uniforms. This is another big factor that prevents some parents from sending their children to school in uniform. “With millions of children preparing to return to school, a study by the charity Family Action, which supports disadvantaged families, says many poorer parents will have paid 40% of their monthly income in August on school costs alone back to school." It is estimated that the average cost of outfitting a child for the first day of secondary school now averages $191.96, including clothing and equipment. The average cost of uniforms for boys is $160.74 and for gi...... middle of paper ... ...with the desire to wear the latest looks so I can fit in at school. Unfortunately, many do not have the means to do so and may fall victim to peer pressure or bullying.” (Tucker) This shows that even with school uniforms bullying will not decrease and will continue to occur in some schools due to the different people and cliques present in the school. In conclusion, uniforms should be banned or not allowed in any school because they are a big waste of money for parents and even schools that support school uniforms. The money saved could be put to better use by hiring more guidance counselors for bullying issues. Furthermore, eliminating school uniforms will help creativity in school. It will help students express themselves and make more friends. Ultimately, it will save parents and schools a lot of money, which will make everyone happy.
