Damian Wyatt will always remember this day. The day the San Jose Earthquakes chose him, a rookie, out of all the stars Robbie Keane. As a first-round pick, he had tremendous pressure on his shoulders. As he walked into the press box after being drafted, the alternating blue and green tiles jumped out at him. The blue tiles had the SJ logo engraved while the green tiles had the MLS logo. But all those tiles were on the wall behind him. As he turned away, his heart sank. Dozens of journalists were eager to ask him questions, like little children asking for candy. He and his advisor sat at a long, large table that served as a barrier between the speaker and the reporters. The first question he received was one many asked: "How do you feel about being drafted before Robbie Keane?" Damian also had this exact question floating around in his head. He conferred with his advisor and confidently but not arrogantly said, “I believe San Jose needs a player with long-term potential. I can bring it to the table but Robbie can't. His heart pounded as the people in the room began to murmur among themselves. I didn't say anything wrong, right? Damiano thought. After half an hour of questions, the press conference ended. He didn't waste a minute and started training the following week, a month before the actual pre-season training began. He hired a personal trainer to help him prepare for the preseason. His coaching was much more vigorous than college coaches had been. While he trained, he focused on other things so that the pain wouldn't get to his mind. Damian's dream has always been to become a football star and make his parents happy. The... center of the card... put on your shoes. The changing room was fantastic. It was large but still gave everyone privacy. He went onto the pitch to start stretching and was amazed at how well kept the grass and stadium were. He started with his favorite exercise, calf stretches, and warmed up slowly. At 9:30, Coach Yallop came out and told us to start with passing drills. "Pair up!" he shouted at us. I looked around. Everyone here was very good and people he respected. The coach then decided to pair us up himself. "Wondo, you're with Salinas, Lenhart, I'll set you up with Wyatt." Damian pulled away and thought about his partner. The Steve Lenhart. Steve Lenhart is perhaps the hardest working player in the league and now I have to work with him? Thank God I trained all last month. Steve walked over to Damian and gave him a. They started with a fairly simple passing exercise.
