Topic > Personal Experience: Characteristics of a Good Nurse

Nursing is what brought us together. We began our degree completion to further our education. It didn't take me long in this program to reflect on what Associates in nursing and Bachelor Completion mean to me. I believe that during my associate studies I learned the skills to become a nurse and I am now learning to understand and appreciate what it means to be a nurse. Before I went to college to study nursing, I had a philosophy about it that has evolved as I have gained experience and knowledge. According to …..( ), philosophy is “a theory or attitude of a person or organization that serves as a guiding principle for behavior (p.sss). Therefore, our nursing philosophy should help us identify what our nursing priorities are and how we should act as nurses. While I know that my nursing philosophy will continue to change over time, I currently have a clear idea of what my beliefs are. I believe that a nurse should be motivated to help others, do something meaningful and make a difference in the lives of others. A nurse should be someone who appreciates God's creations, values life and respects its course. A nurse should be a good listener and do no harm. Furthermore, I believe that nurses should be able to self-evaluate to avoid judgment when caring for people from different backgrounds. Furthermore, I think a nurse should also pay attention to details to spot any errors or identify certain disease processes early, should be respectful of others' ideas and decisions, and should be eager to learn as the field evolves. Finally, I believe that a nurse must be strong and sensitive to treat others with humanity and at the same time provide support. This philosophy could not exist without four main concepts… middle of paper… push and hard copy. This way, if my computer fails, I can recover the information thanks to my hard drive. Plus, if for some reason the power were to go out or the computer and hard drive crashed, I would have the information on paper. Furthermore, I am considering the possibility of archiving my documents in a sort of electronic "cloud". I currently have virtual storage that I can access through my email that works the same way as a hard drive. I also read that we can store our artifacts in Canvas. I'd like to delve deeper into the topic. I look forward to exchanging impressions about our nursing philosophy and learning more about professional portfolio development. I hope you liked my post. I really enjoyed the topics and felt like I had a lot to say, so hopefully it wasn't too long. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my post and comment on it 
