Imagine walking into school one day and thinking it's going to be a normal, normal day. Then, your teacher tells you to hide in a place where you won't be seen, walks to the door, closes it, locks it, and turns off the lights. You can't say a word. As you sit in silence, you hear yelling and screaming. I'm innocent, I'm just a child! Then you hear gunshots and wonder what's happening. There's a school shooting going on. According to Steven Hsieh there have already been approximately 11 school shootings in the 2013-2014 school year in the United States (1). Schools must find better ways of safety and security to prevent school shootings. To better understand why schools need better protection, we need to know what school shootings are, why there are school shootings, and what is being done now for protection. Then, we also need to know how school shootings affect others, how to better prevent school shootings, and how many school shootings there have been in the United States. A school shooting is gun violence that occurs at an educational location or in a building where school is held. The term school shooting commonly describes acts committed by a student or intruders from outside the school campus (Princeton University 1). A simpler definition is when a person is on or on any type of school property, such as school grounds, a school building, or school buses, and fires a gun. You might wonder why there are school shootings in the first place. Unfortunately, there can be many reasons why school shootings occur. The main reason school shootings happen is that kids pick on others, tease them, or bully them. People want to take revenge and take revenge on the people who hurt them in the middle of paper, as well as many frightened parents who were waiting for words about their loved ones. The gunman was identified as Adam Lanza. He was 20 years old. He killed 20 children and six adults at the school (Mcloughlin 1). Officials initially told NBC News that the gunman was Lanza's brother, Ryan. But a senior official later said that Ryan was nowhere near the shooting, was not believed to be involved, and was cooperating with the investigation (Mcloughlin 1). In conclusion, schools should improve their safety because there are too many school shootings happening. . Overall, school shootings shouldn't happen in the first place. Schools have some security methods; however, there are many other methods they can use to improve their security. There are also other things that could be done to improve our society besides safety.
