During the year we read many different novels from many different time periods. We read the following five periods: colonial, revolutionary, romanticism, realism and modernism. All five of these time periods express the lifestyle in many different ways. By this I mean that in every historical period the thought on life is very different. Each time period gives you a different perspective on life and also how different we live now compared to any of these time periods, with the exception of postmodernism. Postmodernism is the current way of writing. These time periods range from 1607 to the present. We read and learned 400 years' worth of writing in the space of nine months. We really need more time to truly understand all these ways of writing. The colonial period was the first period we had the joy of learning about this year. This time period took place from 1607 to 1764. This style of writing was very interesting because it basically started when the first people arrived in the Americas. It took us from the first people to settle the colonies to the first president of the United States of America. Well, as we know it was. This period did not lead us to his presidency, but it did start to talk about George Washington. In this we also talked about the revolutionary war and its planning. I absolutely loved this period because it was the oldest and most unknown. Then we have the revolutionary period. The Revolutionary Period took place from 1764 to 1789. This time period took us through the entire Revolutionary War. We also learned about the great planning that led to the Revolutionary War. We learned... middle of paper... that they were out of this world, literally. A novel by Kurt Vonnegut called Breakfast of Champions was about a man named Kilgore Traut. This novel is set on another planet. The topic I chose for my research paper was Pot-Modernism. I love this type of writing. It's full of science fiction and Syfy writing. This makes for very interesting reading and will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. This was the only section we read all year where I read the story all the way through and not just skimmed through it just to get a basic idea. I read the story of our book on postmodernism and not only that, I also went and found the entire book and started reading it. This section was by far the best read we had. Don't get me wrong, some of the other sections were really good, but postmodernism was the most intriguing to me.
