Topic > Morals and Ethics: Choosing to Do the Right Things

Moral ethics means doing what is right just because you know it is right. For example, if you see someone drop a $20 bill. Will you choose to do the right thing, which is to give it to him, or the not so good thing, which is to keep it? My opinion, along with that of my mother and father, is that if you find some money and don't see anyone drop it, I would keep it, but if you see someone drop it, I would give it back. This is my opinion and my parents because when I find money I tell my mom or dad and they would say to keep it if I didn't see anyone drop it. One time my mother was walking out of Walmart and saw a $20 bill on the ground. He told one of us to go out and get it, so did my brother and this is our opinion. Moral questions greet us every morning in the newspapers and things like that. People practice moral ethics every day and don't even realize it. Keep the door open for people, help your mom and dad do things for them because you help them if they ask you to prepare them a drink or a meal or wash the dishes. If you go to a restaurant and order something that costs $8 and you only have one can and for some reason they don't have change or the cash register is broken. You could tell them to stick with the change. Morality means concern with the principles of right and wrong behavior and the goodness or badness of human character. Ethics means moral principles that govern the behavior of a person or group. Moral ethics were the focus of a 2001 national study conducted by the Barna research group. that study revealed that only one in four adults “rely primarily on religious principles and teachings or the content of the Bible when making a moral decision.” 50% of adults surveyed said they base their moral decision on “whatever will bring them the most pleasant or satisfied results.” We all consciously approach life with a moral and ethical framework. We often tend to take on the beliefs and worldview of our parents, our friends at school, and others who play an influential role in our upbringing. Everyone in this world sins every day and doesn't even know they're doing it.
