Introduction The topic of interest in this literature review is whether print media or digital media are better than their counterparts. Print media is a medium used to disseminate information or news in printed material ("printed paper"). For example: newspapers, magazines, books. Digital media is digitized content that can be transmitted via television or across computer networks such as the Internet, and which consists of text, graphics, audio and video ("digital media"). Why is this topic of interest important? It has been suggested and observed that print media is declining while digital media is increasing, leading to a possible hypothesis that digital media is a better medium and that print may possibly be replaced one day. To address these conflicting opinions, the help of relevant sources will help us discover the reasons why print media is declining and digital media is rising, the advantages of print over digital media, and the demographic differences among print users printed. and digital media respectively. All these questions will be answered in the following literature review. Reasons why print media is in decline Print media is in decline, this can be seen in the newspaper industry in the United States as it is facing "its worst financial crisis since the Great Depression" (Kirchhoff). Some large newspaper chains have declared bankruptcy, while many others have closed their doors (Kirchhoff). This has led many journalists and editors to be out of work, paid less, and become web-only publications (Kirchhoff). In recent years, digital media has become more popular, which is one of the reasons why print media is facing a financial crisis. The average American adult spends five hours… middle of paper… favoring the portability, the lack of portability, the price factor, the lack of timeliness, and being seen as a detriment to the environment. However, it also has its advantages over digital media. This includes: brand identity during print advertising, more engaging, more accurate and permanent. As stated by the aforementioned Senior Research Fellow, Carli “Neither print alone nor digital media alone can meet the communications needs of business, government and the growing human population as they are used today.” the studies we included in this review were not conducted locally. However, it is still very relevant to us as print and digital media is a global issue. Also, regarding the demographic (gender) difference for print media, there are not enough studies in that area, so we are unable to elaborate further.
