Topic > Lord of the Flies by William Golding - 713

Lord of the Flies; a book where a group of kids are stranded on an island to fend for themselves. A main event that happened in the first chapter of the book is that with that a leader is chosen; social classes begin to take shape. Social classes will always be here because; there are people who want more money and power and who are willing to work hard to get it. The social classes in the book are the small ones, the intermediate ones and the large ones. The social classes in today's society are lower, middle and upper. How is the lower class treated in today's society? The lower class represents the lowest social rank, due to low income and lack of education or skills. It all starts with education; it is the gateway to a successful life. The more you have, the better off you will be. Having an education also allows you to attend a good college, get a well-paying job, and, as a result, live a good life. Uneducated people are placed at the lowest levels of society, where living conditions are poor. Also changing our view of Lord of the Flies, the lower class in the book would be the younger kids, or the little ones. Since the children in the book are the youngest, they lack education and knowledge. The upper class torments and mocks the lower class. Classism is the unfair treatment of people because of their social or economic class, which sums up the smallest. A good example of how the upper class torments the lower class would be slavery. Slaves were white property and were whipped if they didn't do what they were told, sometimes for no reason. For example, in the book, when Roger belongs to the middle class he throws stones at Henry who belongs to the lower class. Some str… middle of paper… make up the majority of the population. The three classes will always be here and will play a huge role in the Lord of the Flies book. Works CitedGolding pg29 "Lower class". Dictionary.com. Dictionary.com and Web.
