Topic > Trumpeter Hughes Literary Analysis by Langston Hughes

Hughes used many aspects of literature such as symbolism, imagery, and mode to help the reader find the main idea, theme, and other analysis information hidden in the selection. The prosperity and adversity of the trumpeter's life helped shape a drive in the musician. Hughes does this to help the reader understand that the entire poem is actually an acknowledgment of the trumpeter's drive to overcome his trials and tribulations. Hughes used many metaphors, repetitions, and images to make this point. Hughes created a theme of spirituality and humility to help the reader understand that one must be calm and not proud during times of adversity. Hughes wrote this because he wanted to address all his brothers and sisters who were going through similar problems and situations to the trumpeters. This poem consists of a mixture of themes such as respect, calmness, zeal because they all show the characteristics of the trumpeter's life. For me, the theme of the poem is definitely humility or otherwise it is definitely spirituality because the trumpeter has endured many situations will make one be calm and collective. Hughes has touched on many points for the viewer to interpret the message of the poem. For me, the message that Hughes has hidden throughout the poem is that when problems come you have to overcome the situation and don't let past situations hold you back from a better future.
