Defining E-LearningElectronic learning (E-Learning) is the ability to interact, collaborate and/or acquire knowledge using technology-based devices. E-learning provides opportunities for peers and faculty to interact and engage in casual acts of learning and discussion primarily outside of the classroom atmosphere. Electronic learning includes exploring the use of multimedia in the transfer of data and resources that support student enrichment and performance. E-learning is a learning style that allows for the facilitation and support of students in a collective or non-parallel manner. According to (Brown & Voltz, 2005), “e-Learning is teaching and learning that is delivered, supported and enhanced using technology and digital media”. More typically, E-Learning consists of retrieving and interpreting data through distance learning through technological devices. Development of E-LearningGamificationA significant development of E-Learning would include the growth of gamification. This would include evolving the use of gaming networks or software to improve learning capabilities. Gamification is the idea of using games to engage students in the process of knowledge development and/or data retention. Such networks include abcmouse.com and jumpstart.com which were established to create a technological learning atmosphere outside of the traditional classroom. The creation of gaming networks on the Internet is not isolated, but it also involves gaming software in the form of CD-ROMs and cartridges with the same intended purpose. This type of electronic learning is often used in classrooms in conjunction with or as reinforcement of curriculum content.
