Comparative essay between Gandhi and MaoEveryone shares different opinions on a variety of things. Take Mohandas Gandhi and Mao Zedong, two prominent revolutionaries of the 20th century. Their ideas spread to India and China respectively. The occurrence of certain events in their homelands led to their emergence as leaders and important figures in their country's history. On April 13, 1919, a rather large group peacefully expressed their disagreement with the British rule that was conquering India. However, they did not realize that the type of meeting they were holding had been banned by General Reginald Dyer. Thus leading Dyer and fifty soldiers to go to the rally and kill "nearly 400 people and wound more than 1,100". (textbook, 401) This tragic massacre led Gandhi to emerge and champion Hindu rights. In 1927, Jiang Jieshi ordered his troops to attack and massacre the Communist Party and those who supported it because he saw them as a threat to his power. (textbook, 407) Once Chinese Communists littered the streets of Shanghai and elsewhere, they too were killed and became nonexistent. Mohandas Gandhi and Mao Zedong were two different people with a variety of beliefs and almost invisible similarities that led them to become influential historical figures in their respective countries. Ahmisa is translated as “non-violence”, (reading package, 16), was the belief that Gandhi used to spread his word. In general Gandhi was not a violent person; perhaps he could be considered some sort of pacifist. His early life was normal and he came from a middle-class Hindu family. When he turned 19, he went to England to receive an education in law. Similar to a number of Indians, after… middle of paper… influenced their countries and the world, leaving behind lessons and practices for future generations. Change within a country can be achieved in different ways; Gandhi and Zedong acted differently, but reached the same conclusion. Gandhi believed in nonviolence, while Zedong believed in violence. Gandhi believed in maintaining ancient traditions and morals and Zedong believed in westernization. When it came to the lower class, however, this is where Mohandas Gandhi and Mao Zedong came face to face. They both believed that money should go to them considering their economic status in society. In the end, all the arguments and protests paid off for both of them. Their countries got the freedom and independence to govern them, live their lives and most importantly take pride in their country thanks to Mohandas Gandhi of India and Mao Zedong of China.
