Both the novels Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel and The Fall by Albert Camus illustrate the concept that individuals do not have the power to change the own destiny. Like Water for Chocolate written by Laura Esquivel is structured in 12 monthly chapters each focused on a recipe. The main theme of the story is the love between Tita and Pedro. There is power, love and life in food and this novel explores the life of food and the women who feed us while depriving themselves of their own desires to do so. The Fall of Albert Camus is an enigmatic novel. It is the story of a lawyer who presents himself as a perfect and irreproachable character. But as the novel progresses, he admits his mistakes and mistakes and argues that he cannot be punished for his mistakes since all people are not flawless and without blemish. Literature is a mirror as well as a hammer. The literature addresses both issues in different ways. Literature is a mirror, as it helps us understand our identity and purposes in our lives. We seek answers about who we are and how we should live. The literature in both novels reflects the life, culture and civilization of the people. The thoughts of adults become part of literature. We get the feelings of happiness or sorrow possessed by the characters in the novel. We read literature and consider it whether it is good or bad. It's comforting to read about the travails and joys of characters who struggle with the same problems we do. So literature is a mirror, as we discover ourselves and our lives reflected in the characters. It is amazing to be able to see ourselves and glimpses of our experiences written down centuries before we were born. Studying enlightened... in the middle of a sheet of paper... to assimilate the concept, discuss and this broadens our horizons and we try to delve deeper into the rationalistic and humanistic nature. When we continue to read such books we come to know about various situations that we may not be experiencing now, but later we can use them to handle the situation in a mature way when we actually face it. In today's fast-paced world, reading has surprised us as modern gadgets and gizmos have made their grand incursion into our lives. The importance of literature has been overshadowed by the influence of the media. Books are being replaced by digital gadgets. But the importance of reading should not be abandoned. Reading novels, magazines and literary works offers us a broader perspective on things, improves skills, instills knowledge and makes us aware of different aspects of life. It lays the foundation for an enriched life and adds “life” to what you experience.
