British and American Poets British and American poets are considered some of the most outstanding poets in history. There was a British and American movement that began just over 200 years ago with William Wordsworth. Once the movement began with Wordsworth, it was mostly British writers, however, the last hundred years or so were filled with equally fantastic American poets. However, 300 years earlier there already existed a world-famous poet named William Shakespeare. However, both British and American poets were phenomenal and could be similar and divergent in various ways. Langston Hughes and William Wordsworth were two wonderful poets with very different backgrounds. Hughes was an African-American writer of the 20th century, while Wordsworth was a British poet of the 1700s. Hughes actually began writing because he was elected class poet at school, and this was because he was an African-American, who was apparently stereotyped for having rhythm. Wordsworth, however, drew inspiration from his sister, Dorothy Wordsworth, to write about nature and the world around him. Another group of poets would be ee cummings and Gerard Manley Hopkins. They were both known as modernists who differed satisfactorily, first of all in nationality, Cummings was American, Hopkins was British. Hopkins actually had several modernist attributes, with the excessive use of hyphens and accents. Cummings, however, is a modernist in the way only a modernist can. Throw every possible writing rule you can throw out the window, out the window. They are both modernists, just in very subtle ways. Now for the first of each country, William Shakespeare and Emily Dickinson. Tho...... middle of the paper......lliam Blake, to Walt Whitman, to Federico del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús García Lorca, then to Ginsberg. Other poets will have individual reasons and uses for allusion. So, there are many distinct British and American poets in the last hundred years who have influenced the world quite a bit. They did many things in poetry, and regardless of nationalism, there were a heartbreaking amount of differences and similarities. A poet can never truly die if he has lived an extraordinary life and left his mark on the world. There are different reasons why a poet writes poetry depending on the inspiration, and it can be anything from relatives to imaginary beliefs to self-confidence. Anyone can be a wonderful poet, no matter where they come from, what their abilities are or what they like, and everyone can be considered a wonderful poet, no matter who they are..
