THE BATTLE OF BULL RUN The very first manassa known as the Battle of Bull Run began on July 21, 1861 in Fairfax County and Prince William County, Virginia. This battle was between the Confederates and the unions. The Confederate leader's name was Irvin Mcdowell and the Union leader was Joseph E Johnston. The estimated total number of victims was approximately 4,878. UNIONS KILLED OR WOUNDED DURING THE WAR During the beginning of the war the union had approximately 28,450 soldiers and all 28,450 soldiers were poorly trained due to lack of marksmanship and experience. Of the 28,450 soldiers there were 460 killed during the war, and 1,124 were wounded during the war, 1,312 were missing and captured for a total of 2,896 killed during the war or simply died from wounds or infections. THE CONFEDERATES KILLED OR WOODENDDuring the beginning of the war the Confederates had approximately 32,230 poorly trained soldiers out of 32,230 soldiers there were 387 killed, 1582 wounded, 13 missing or captured for a total of 1,982 killed or wounded or captured.THE BEGINNING OF THE BATTLEDuring the Battle of Bull Run Confederate troops held Fort Sumter on April 12, 1861.
