Large amounts of plastic in the water are harming marine life and distorting ecosystems to the point of causing animal deaths. The ocean is the most important mass of water on Earth and, if it were polluted, we would have a global catastrophe. Sea pollution is at an all-time high and must stop. Animal corpses litter the ocean floor due to pollution. The sea is not our personal landfill. We must take a stand to help change this situation. Debris polluting the ocean is killing many living organisms. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a massive area where thousands upon thousands of plastics, chemical sludge, and other debris float around polluting beaches and trap wildlife in the midst of their journey. The size of the patch is particularly unknown, although there have been some estimates of its size, including media reports that say: "Twice the size of the continental United States", the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, (AKA The Sea Life Killer) it was simply formed by marine pollution and currents crossing the ocean. We are the ones killing the ocean. The patch exists because of our polluting selfish habits. Every year merchant ships throw waste into the sea and pollute the sea; thus damaging marine habitats and, in extension, marine life. Every year thousands of containers fall overboard in stormy seas, spilling their contents. In 2002, a ship headed from Los Angeles to Tacoma, Washington, rejected 33,000 blue and white Nike basketball shoes. (Weiss) The ocean is part of our ecosystem and should not be treated as if it were a landfill. Marine life has been endangered since the dawn of the human race. Ever since humans realized that fish were edible, the oceans have been in danger due to the policies of public officials before you vote or contact your local representatives to let them know you support the marine environment. conservation projects. Consider patronizing restaurants and grocery stores that offer only sustainable seafood, and talk about your concerns if you spot a threatened species on the menu or at the seafood counter. Also, if you are boating, kayaking, canoeing or doing any travel activity, don't throw garbage into the sea and be a responsible traveler. Finally, learn about marine life and marine habitats because all life on Earth is connected through the ocean. All in all, we need to protect our ocean from pollution so that we can have a source of water. Without the ocean we would not survive in the world. We must stop leaving waste and clean the beaches of dirt. Our marine ecosystems are in danger and we must put a stop to it.
