The American Museum of Natural History has many exhibits that demonstrate many aspects of anthropology. The Museum is located on Central ParkWest between W81st and W77nd streets. The museum is an excellent place to open up to many new ideas and cultures. Looking at the museum, anthropological exhibits could enhance understanding of a culture. The museum is very large and it takes a long time to make the most of it. The following exhibits demonstrating many aspects of anthropology are found on the first, second, and third floors. The first floor features the peoples of the American Northwest Coast, the Eskimos, human biology and evolution. The second floor was home to African, Asian, Mexican, and Central and South American peoples. Finally, the third floor was home to primates, the eastern woodland and plains peoples of North America, and the Pacific peoples. The museum also included many other interesting exhibits that did not have to do with anthropology, such as the Dinosaur Hall. All of these exhibits in the museum had detailed information about each piece on display, whether it was a large sculpture or a small skeleton. There were also films that could have been seen for a small price, but if you have the time it is very informative and worth seeing. In the Asian Peoples Hall the most intriguing exhibit was the Chinese Wedding. It was very interesting to see how a different culture fits together. In this wedding the Chinese bride sits on this beautiful wedding chair from the groom's family who brought it from their home. The bride now says goodbye to her family because in Chinese culture she is now part of the groom's family. "Her impressive dowry, displayed by the procession along the street, gives prestige to her family just as the beauty of the wedding chair gives prestige to that of the groom." Prestige and honor are very important to Chinese culture and during an important event such as a wedding it is not unusual to flaunt one's prestige. To properly perform the dowry and chair is a must. In Chinese tradition the bride must be covered by a veil and the groom never saw her before removing the veil himself when she arrived at her family's home. In photo no. 1 this shows the background of a village in Shantung, northeastern China. This province is where Con...... middle of paper ...... the first settlers who arrived on Easter Island are believed to have come from. Little is known about the heads and figures made by people. I think it is very interesting and would like to know more about these people and their sculptures. This room was also my favorite because I was always interested in seeing the beautiful Pacific. So seeing artifacts with skeletons inside them thrilled me to the point that I was happy to have saved this exhibit for last. The museum as a whole gave me a better understanding of anthropology as a whole. Each exhibit contained detailed facts about the culture and people. For example, we learned about human evolution in class, but the museum, as you can see, had some nice exhibits that showed the changing evolution of Inhumans in great detail. Another example would be the skeletal bones I saw at the museum. After seeing the bones at the museum I could easily connect them to the story contained in the anthropology book NoBones Unturned by Phillip Whitten and David EK Hunter. This had given me a better understanding of what they were looking at. It had also given me more interest in how they looked at the bones and what techniques they used..
