Kenisha Miller is an emergency room nurse at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital in Houton, Texas. During her training she was fortunate to gain experience as a student intern in the LBJ emergency room; her hard work and dedication during clinical rotations earned her a full-time position as an emergency room nurse. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Texas in May 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing after passing the HESI exit exam and the National Councial Licensure Examination. “I'm always up for a challenge and first aid never fails” (K. Miller, personal communication, April 2, 2013). She has only practiced nursing for two years, but feels she has gained a lot of experience as an emergency room nurse. “In the emergency department, critical thinking, prioritization, time management, and understanding important objective and subjective data are essential assessment skills needed in the emergency department.” (K. Miller, personal communication, April 2, 2013) . Her biggest motivation to breastfeed began after her daughter began showing signs of food and seasonal allergies once milk was introduced to her. Caring for her daughter while learning how the body reacts to specific stimuli, medications and treatments has sparked interest in the nursing field. Job Performance A typical day in the emergency room is never typical for Keniesha Miller, a lot of priority is given to emergency space and critical thinking. From begging to the end of the shift he must determine who needs to be seen immediately and who is stable enough to be seen in a few minutes. Always asks questions and collects data to indicate the severity level of the emergency for each patient. Must use critical thinking skills to be able to brief vendors... middle of the paper... and a variety of other important topics.
