Topic > A Career in Veterinary Medicine - 851

I'm doing my research paper on being a vet. I have a strong passion for animals. I have been volunteering at an animal shelter for almost 6 years. I like working with animals and also training them. I would love to pursue my career in this industry because it's something I can see myself doing for the rest of my life. Veterinarians diagnose animal health problems. They vaccinate against diseases. They also treat wounds and treat suffering animals with infections. They examine the animals and determine what disease or infection they may have. They also educate people about diseases that can spread from animals to humans. Some of the medical equipment used are stethoscopes, surgical instruments, and diagnostic equipment. Some veterinarians work with human scientists to help research ways to treat various human health problems. (How to become a veterinarian.) Animals have been greatly expanded and used for economic value. They have been used for food, shelter and transportation for many years. Before the 1950s most veterinarians focused more on livestock because there weren't many other animals. Back then it was much easier to kill injured or dying animals than to treat them. In 1900 almost everyone worked on farms. People were not willing to spend money to keep their pets healthy, so there were very few of them in the 1950s. One of the first schools that studied only veterinary medicine was founded in Lyon, France, by Claude Bourgelat in 1761. Bourgelat did not want to have students in his school who already had training in human medical sciences, he focused more on teaching people who they had no experience. This school found ways to cure livestock diseases and advance the cause of public health. (Careers in Veterinarians......middle of paper......enter. It's an opportunity to continue your education.
