Compared to most countries in the world, the United States of America is privileged. Americans have the right to freedoms that other countries do not have: freedom of speech, press, religion, assembly, petition, and the right to bear arms. Every American has the right to a basic education, regardless of race, gender, or income; all Americans could have at least a high school diploma. While this is wonderful, the quality of education people receive in the United States does not reach its full potential. With the resources available, the American education system should be better. Historically, the American education system has problems. When education began, topics such as what defines public education; who has the right to receive an education; and how can the government ensure that the education provided is of quality, was discussed. These issues are somewhat resolved, but still need work. Currently, the U.S. Department of Education is concerned with providing affordable education for all, especially at the college level, and seeks ways to improve the quality of education....
