Pro-life advocates say that elective abortion undeservedly takes the life of a defenseless human being. This action treats the unborn child as a disposable object. Does the embryo/fetus have the right to life? Pro-choice advocates use size, developmental level, environment, and degree of dependency as one to justify abortion. However, Stephan Schwartz states: “…SLED is not relevant in the way that abortion advocates need it to be.” Size: It is true that embryos are smaller than any other age/size of babies. We don't say that small people are less important than big people; high more important than low... we don't say any of this because in reality "size does not equal value". Developmental level: Embryos are less developed than a newborn; a four-year-old is not as developed as an eighteen-year-old. However, let us not discredit a four-year-old's right to life because he is less developed than a person in late adolescence. Others say that the level of awareness or lack thereof alters your right to life. If someone is in a coma or has some brain disease like Alzheimer's, we do not discredit that person's right to life because they lack awareness. Level of awareness or lack thereof is not a valid argument. The environment is also a problem. Where you are doesn't matter; you don't change value because you get in or out of the car, go to your friend's house or go shopping. Your value does not vary depending on your location. The last one is the Degree of Dependence. Those who must be cared for by medical personnel are no less human for this reason. Conjoined twins have no more or less right to life because they depend on each other.
