The study is to find "Differences in parents' attitudes towards attributes required for marriage". In recent years, as we all can see, there are many of the issues related to divorce, separation of couples, etc. The researcher's interest in this study is mainly to focus on knowing the various attributes that will be required for marriage and henceforth to lead a happy married life, thereby reducing divorce rates. The researcher here is mainly focusing on the Indian arranged marriage system where parents will play an important role in choosing attributes for their children who have reached the age of marriage. By conducting this study, the researcher will know the most important attributes that would play an important role in making married life much happier. Attitudes Attitudes are learned tendencies by which people evaluate everything they encounter in a certain way. Sometimes these evaluations are positive or negative and include people rating events, objects, problems, etc. Example: People will have different attitudes towards owning an individual house versus owning an individual apartment. Attitudes are formed due to experiences. They can form due to personal experiences or observation. Social roles and norms can also influence attitudes. Social roles refer to the behavior of people in a situation. Social norms involve society's rules about what behaviors are considered appropriate. Finally, people also learn attitudes by observing the people around them. When someone you greatly admire espouses a particular attitude, you are more likely to develop the same beliefs. For example, a child studying in kindergarten, may tend to learn the behavior or attitudes of his teacher by observing a... middle of paper... of our society, parents have become very fond of getting their children married according to them, defining various attributes that suit their children and family for a better and lasting life. The trend of arranged marriages in India is a long process. We first go looking for the bride or groom and then the other aspects come into play; aspects like financial status, caste, education, standard of living, eating habits, family background, religion, etc. parents especially consider the mentioned attributes before agreeing to give their son or daughter in marriage. The objective of this study is mainly to focus on the main attributes that parents seek for marriage, considering both, for example the search for the bride and the groom. The following chapter helps to understand the literature review available in the context of the present study.
