In Achebe's novel, Things Fall Apart, Ibo culture revolves around structured gender roles, from the crops that men and women grow, to the characterization of crimes, which it creates tension between the sexes and will ultimately lead to harmful consequences. Things Fall Apart represents the difficulties and struggles between women and men. For example, Ekwefi, Okonkwo's wife, is often beaten for things she has sincerely forgotten about. We also have Enzima, Okonkwo's favorite daughter, but since she is a girl, she must be treated like a woman. Although females are considered the weaker gender, they possess many qualities that make them worthy, such as bearing children. Achebe explained the importance of both genders and how they contribute to society. Everything, or at least almost everything in Ibo society revolves around genders and their role in society. Gender equality is the equal valorization of the different roles assumed by men and women. (Okokwo 5579) This shows that women are treated differently than men and are expected to act like women....
