Topic > Animal testing: a vital role in medicine...

Animal testing has been and will continue to be a source of scientific research. The similarities between animals and humans allow researchers to provide safer drugs and new treatments for diseases. (Foundation for Biomedical Research (FBR), 2008). Animal experiments have provided many positive results in medical advances that save human and animal lives. However, many people in today's society have an emotional attachment to animals that fuels opposition to animal testing. But anyone who cares about human life must unequivocally support the rightness of using animals in medical research (Epstein, 2005). Studies using animals have been practiced and debated for hundreds of years. Scientists and medical researchers support animal testing, which is necessary for medical advances in treating diseases. To preserve human life, animal testing will continue to play a vital role for medical testing in the introduction of new drugs, toxicity tests and improved medical procedures. Supporters of animal testing know that the new drugs we have today would not have been possible without the use of animals for testing. Ongoing studies aim to help humans and animals pursue more comfortable and longer lives. “Consumers demand and have the right to expect that the products they depend on are safe when used correctly” (Partners in Research (PIR), 2009). Everyday illnesses such as migraines, diabetes, asthma, hypertension, blocked arteries and simple infections are treated with drugs that are first tested on animals. Furthermore, vaccines also developed through animal testing have proven effective in preventing diseases for both animals and humans. Vaccine... center of paper... therapeutic opportunities for humans. Today, most people would not live their lives as comfortably or as long without medications to cope with illness and suffering. Animal testing costs the lives of animals rather than humans. Despite the overwhelming opposition to animal testing, people must realize that animals also provide us with the gift of possible new drugs, safety with chemicals, and new medical procedures. If a person were healthy without medical needs, it would be easy to oppose animal testing. But if that person had a loved one affected by an illness, their position would be very different. This would be the decisive moment for those who oppose animal testing. They would not think twice about the animals used to find the answers to the medical treatments needed to defeat the disease.
