From my opinion on what I have collected, I have come to the conclusion that critical regionalism can be seen as an approach to architecture that seeks to defend the culture of places and identify the identity of a place where modern architecture has failed to do so, using the geographical context of the building and the reference to vernacular architecture. The term critical regionalism was first used by Alexander Tzonis and Liane Lefaivre and, with a slightly different meaning, by Kenneth Frampton. Critical regionalism could be considered as a particular type of postmodern response. This response developed as a result of the failure of postmodernism, along with the influence of globalization and the spread of Western culture. Critical regionalism could also be seen as the best solution to cultural issues and architectural identity problems. Frampton's thesis is that critical regionalism should not only respond to context, but should also enhance the progress of universal modern architecture. Critical regionalism, defined by Fred S. Matter "...is an attempt to synthesize the long-standing aspects of a region, including physical and cultural characteristics, with appropriate current technology. It is the search for an architecture that is meaningful in its context and at the same time participate in the more universal aspects of a contemporary mobile society" (Matter. FS: 1989) In this essay I will discuss how concrete regionalism was presented in the work of Le Corbusier which is the most exemplary. classic of this movement, Oscar Niemeyer and Antoine Predock. Each architect has a highly individual vision that has created buildings unique to people and their environment. Each of these architects combined vernacular constructions...... middle of paper ......008/09/plaza.jpg)CONCLUSIONThe works of Le Corbusier, Oscar Niemeyer and Antoine Predock display a high level of honor and truthfulness . These architects were concrete revolutionaries, they partially overturned the concepts of "purism", "less is more" and functionalism with the plastic freedom made possible by reinforced concrete. An important aspect of critical regionalism is that building occupants should experience local climatic conditions as well as the response to the nature of the landscape with sensitivity and care. In my opinion, I think each of these architects achieved this in whatever environment they worked. In conclusion, I think that these international and regional architects have achieved an interaction that contributes to symbolic and iconic architecture that suggests new formal possibilities.
