The Lust for MurderEmotions get the best of everyone in stressful situations, but what about those who have no emotions to spare? The media glamorises murders and serial killers by making them the center of the spotlight in films, shows and novels. What readers and viewers often forget is that these people are real and reside on the same street their children ride bikes on. People who commit these horrendous crimes are often known as sociopaths. Not all sociopaths become serial killers, but the combination of abusive childhoods, environment, and genetic influences drives them to kill repeatedly and take innocent lives. Ideal definitions of a sociopath often mislead them. A sociopath is classified as a person with a personality disorder that manifests itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behavior and a lack of conscience. Sociopaths are not as rare as most people think. Your average neighbor might even have the urge to kill and dismember bodies. Sociopaths have completely different personality traits and characteristics than normal human beings. They often show disregard for the rights of others, an inability to feel remorse or guilt, and even a tendency to display violent behavior and emotional outbursts. Even with these obvious characteristics, some people keep their sociopathic tendencies hidden in shame or guilt over these feelings, but the people who embrace their sociopathy are some of the best-known American serial killers to date. One of the prime examples of a young sociopath turned murderer is one of America's most glorified and notorious serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer. Dahmer, also known as The...... middle of paper......s reformer throughout his early life. Manson never experienced a normal childhood and was transformed into a cold sociopath early in his birth. At the age of nine Manson had already been convicted of car theft and grand larceny. When Manson grew up, he committed some crimes that landed him in prison, but he was released after a short time. In 1967 Manson traveled to San Francisco where he met a group of hippies with whom he quickly became friends. They formed a band called the Manson Family and began traveling around the country. Manson had developed a racist attitude and believed that blacks were "evil." Manson then brainwashed the impressionable young girls and told them that they could find utopia through a cave beneath Death Valley where they could remain until blacks, due to their innate inferiority, gave up their power..
